When it comes to track design, the details can make all the difference. At Ulysses High School in Kansas, Pro Track and Tennis introduced a bold new trend: differently colored exchange zones. The bright orange zones, set against the sleek black track surface, not only enhance visibility for athletes, but also showcase the school’s pride in its tiger mascot and black-and-orange branding.

“It really makes the track pop and kind of brands us a little bit,” said Superintendent Corey Burton. This design choice was a first for Pro Track and Tennis, and is quickly becoming a popular option for schools looking to elevate their athletic facilities.

A Much-Needed Transformation

The new design wasn’t just about aesthetics. The existing track at Ulysses High School was in rough shape.

“The surface on it was just shot. It was deteriorated. There were spots where it was basically gone, and over time, it had gotten really hard. Some of our kids were even fighting shin splints because of it,” Burton explained.

Our team completely removed the old rubber surface, revealing a base that, fortunately, was still in good condition. This allowed us to apply a brand-new surface, ensuring durability, functionality, and a safer experience for athletes.

A Game-Changer for Athletes and Coaches

The transformation is more than just skin deep. The softer, upgraded surface significantly reduces the risk of injuries like shin splints, creating a better environment for both practice and competition.

“It looks great, it feels great. When you’re out walking on it, it’s way softer than our old surface. I know our coaches and kids are excited to be on it this spring,” said Burton.

Seamless Execution and Community Pride

Pro Track and Tennis prides itself on delivering high-quality projects on time, even under tight schedules. Ulysses High School made the decision to move forward with the track replacement later than expected, but our team worked tirelessly to meet the deadline.

“They were great,” Burton said. “Communication was great. Timing for us was a little important, and they guaranteed us they could get in here right at the end of football season and still have us ready to go for track season.”

Despite a week of unexpected rain, our crew persevered, ensuring the track was ready for athletes to hit the ground running this spring.

A Standout Track for a Proud Community

The response to the new track has been overwhelmingly positive. Community members are eager to walk the surface themselves and see the stunning orange exchange zones that tie into the school’s identity.

At Pro Track and Tennis, we’re thrilled to have partnered with Ulysses High School to create a track that is as functional as it is visually striking. Whether it’s helping athletes perform their best or fostering school spirit, this project is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship.
