What Nebraska Winters and Water Do to Courts and Tracks
Freeze-thaw is the biggest threat to Nebraska courts, and it damages tracks too. Omaha drops to 32°F or colder on more than 130 nights in an average year, and on about 94 of those days the temperature climbs back above freezing. Farther west, North Platte averages about 143 freeze-thaw days a year. Water in a crack freezes and expands, so the crack widens, and moisture trapped under a coating can freeze and lift it. In hard winters, net post footings can heave.
At Westside High School in Omaha, parts of the court surface were breaking down from hydrostatic pressure, and in places loose clay was coming through. We scraped the damaged areas, treated the cracks, and patched the asphalt with binder before the new acrylic coating went down, in two phases of three courts.
Cold also decides when a coating can go down.
“We can’t install coatings below 60 degrees or on damp surfaces. For northern states, that means work windows are much shorter, mainly summer.”
Lance Laurent, President, Pro Track & Tennis

The overnight low also has to hold at 60°F or higher. By NOAA normals, Omaha’s average low stays there only between early June and early September, and North Platte’s only between early July and mid-August. Omaha also averages measurable rain on about 30 days from June through August. Book the free assessment in early fall.

Nebraska Tennis Court Resurfacing Projects
Our tennis court resurfacing in Omaha includes all six courts at Westside High School. Around the state, our tennis court jobs include the cities of Axtell, Holdrege, and Tecumseh, Harmon Park in Kearney, and Memorial Park in North Platte. Nebraska Pickleball Court Projects
At Churchich Park in Omaha, four concrete tennis courts became eight pickleball courts with new game lines. For the City of Imperial, the tennis courts got an acrylic resurfacing and a layout of four pickleball courts, with tennis marked in ghost lines. Smash Park La Vista’s pickleball courts are another of our jobs.

Nebraska Running Track Resurfacing Projects
Running track resurfacing in Nebraska has taken us to Elkhorn Valley View Middle School, where open cracks had formed across a base mat track more than a decade old. We installed a full black structural spray system over the oval, D-zones, and runways. Central City High School got a black structural spray on its track, runways, and high jump areas. For a mat too far gone to spray, we also offer polyurethane track surfacing in Nebraska.

Where We Work Across Nebraska
Our crews have finished jobs across Nebraska, from Omaha west to Dalton. Here’s that work region by region, with the towns where it happened and the cities we also serve.
Omaha, Elkhorn, and Ralston
In Omaha, we resurfaced the six tennis courts at Westside High School and handled the pickleball conversion at Churchich Park. Our other Omaha jobs include the Skutt Catholic High School track, the MECA Tri-Park Complex pickleball courts, and tennis courts at the Maple Athletic Complex and in city parks. In Elkhorn, we resurfaced the four Elkhorn South High School tennis courts in navy and gold, put a structural spray on the Elkhorn Valley View Middle School track, and worked on the Grandview Middle School track. At Ralston High School, we resurfaced six concrete tennis courts in blue and red.
Around the Omaha Metro
In La Vista, we’ve worked on the pickleball courts at Smash Park La Vista, a middle school track, and city tennis courts. We’ve done track work at Bennington High School, on the Gretna East High School runways, and in Gretna, Arlington, Plattsmouth, and Yutan. In Papillion and Valley we’ve worked on pickleball and tennis courts, in Waterloo on tennis courts, and in Fremont and Yutan on pickleball courts. For the City of Blair, we repaired cracks, stabilized expansion joints, and fixed heaving net post footings on the concrete tennis courts, and for the Village of Mead, we painted pickleball lines.
Lincoln and Southeast Nebraska
At Concordia University in Seward, we resurfaced five pickleball courts. We’ve worked on the Centennial High School track in Utica, the City of Milford’s pickleball courts, and the City of Tecumseh’s tennis and basketball courts. We’ve also done track work in Adams, Friend, McCool Junction, and Shelby, tennis courts in York, and pickleball courts in Bellwood and David City, and we’ve worked in Superior. Lincoln facilities can book us for court and track work too.
Northeast Nebraska
In South Sioux City, we surfaced three new indoor courts for tennis and pickleball. We’ve worked on the Creighton High School track, the Riverside Park pickleball courts in Neligh, and a college track in Wayne, and we’ve done track work in Randolph. In Norfolk, the job was tennis courts, and we’ve also had one in Plainview.
Central Nebraska
We resurfaced Central City High School’s track. For the Kearney Pickleball Club, we replaced taped lines on repurposed tennis courts at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds with painted pickleball courts. Our tennis court work here includes Harmon Park in Kearney, the Arcadia Booster Club, the City of Axtell, the City of Holdrege, and courts in Grand Island and Blue Hill. In Holdrege, we did the basketball court lines as well. Besides the Bertrand High School track, we’ve done track work in Axtell, Cairo, Hastings, St. Paul, and Shelton. We’ve also done court work in Minden and Franklin and worked in Lexington.
Western Nebraska
The City of Imperial’s resurfaced courts were set up for both pickleball and tennis. We’ve worked on the Memorial Park tennis courts in North Platte, tennis courts in Big Springs, the Leyton High School track in Dalton, and a high school track in Cambridge. Pickleball courts in a McCook city park and a job in Scottsbluff round out the region.

Common Questions From Nebraska Facilities
Summer, and the window is short. We won’t coat a court that’s damp or colder than 60°F, or when the overnight low will dip below 60°F. In NOAA’s normals, Omaha’s nights average 60°F or warmer only from early June into early September, and North Platte’s only from early July to mid-August. Even in July, Omaha averages 4.5 nights at 60°F or colder, so get the free assessment on the calendar early and allow for weather days.
Pro Track & Tennis has finished jobs from South Sioux City to Imperial. They include Westside, Ralston, and Elkhorn South high schools and Churchich Park in the Omaha area, Concordia University in Seward, Central City High School, and the City of Imperial. We take work anywhere in Nebraska, including Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney, and North Platte, and we’re a registered contractor in Nebraska (registration 30535-26).
Repair the cracks themselves before the court is resurfaced. At Concordia University in Seward, the pickleball court seams opened up and needed patching every year, so when we resurfaced the courts, we installed ARMOR crack repair on those seams. ARMOR is our standard crack repair, with a five-year warranty when it goes on a court. Tearing a court out is only for asphalt that’s crumbling so badly our products won’t stick.
Yes. When we resurfaced Westside High School’s courts in Omaha, they were finished with fresh white striping, and Ralston High School’s new blue and red courts were striped for tennis. For pickleball, Imperial’s courts got four pickleball layouts with tennis ghost lines, and game lines finished the eight new courts at Churchich Park.
It depends on the mat underneath. If the base mat is sound, a structural spray over it renews the surface, as at Central City High School and Elkhorn Valley View Middle School. If the mat has deteriorated, it gets scraped off and replaced, with a latex system or a higher-end polyurethane one. Polysport is our track surface partner, and a resurfacing job runs 2 to 4 weeks.
